How COVID is Changing Us: Home Schooling

Like everything else in 2020, the classroom sure does look different this year. I commend all the parents who have stepped out of their comfort zones in order to add "teacher" to their list of weighty credentials. In all seriousness, I don't think teachers have ever been appreciated more.

To celebrate the new school year - whether that's virtual, in-person, or a hybrid model - September's chapter of Inspiration is Everywhere is a homeschooling environment dedicated to the most elementary of objects: a pencil.

One of my favorite ways to add color, texture, and pattern to a room is with an area rug. In this case, a woven geometric dhurrie pops with mustard and pink in contrast to the medium gray walls. Accents of white and black are dynamic in combination with these saturated tones. A bright yellow desk chair is fun and comfortable for stretches of time spent seated. The black and white loveseat and throw pillow offer a secondary location for casual study time. Vintage planetary posters and watercolor world maps are interesting accessories while the calendar, wall clock, and bulletin board support functionality and organization. The desk organizer and Nintendo bookends help to enforce "a place for everything and everything in its place" philosophy. Lastly, a mid-century modern pendant offers lighting to round out this playful, "Practice Makes Awesome" pencil-inspired space.
